Tritech Commits to Future Subsea Talent

Tritech adds to the skills of the next generation of subseaengineers. Across Tritech’s two sites in Ulverston, Cumbria and Westhill,Aberdeenshire, the company has been nurturing the potential of five studentapprentices.

At Westhill, a student and a graduate from AberdeenUniversity have been employed as Student Engineers. Gregor Will and Ben Birdare working under the guidance of the Customer Support Team and will be onplacement until mid-September. The students are obtaining hands on experiencein quality control and design as well as gaining an appreciation of the varioussubsea applications that Tritech products are used for.

Tritech’s Ulverston site has three Electronic TechnicianApprentices; in conjunction with apprentice engineering and technology trainingprovider GEN II, who are at various stages of the four year placement. ChrisRonson has recently just completed a work-based portfolio as part of his finalyear to achieve an NVQ level 3+ alongside completing his HNC in Electrical& Electronic Engineering. Whilst two apprentices are nearing the end oftheir second year, Sam Simpson and Jake Holmes have been receiving onsitetraining, spending the last year working towards their NVQ level 3 andcompleting their ONC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering in preparationfor starting their HNC this year.

Knowledge and competency go hand-in-hand with selecting theright individual to work at Tritech. As Bill Jaffray, Process and ImprovementsManager comments, skills, commitment and teamwork are at the heart of Tritech:“Establishing student placements within Tritech has allowed us to attract thebest calibre of individuals. The programme we offer allows the students tointeract with their peers as we create a learning environment whichnecessitates teamwork.”

GEN II courses are designed with close employer engagementto meet specific skill requirements and are fully accredited by appropriateprofessional bodies. Courses range from Entry level through to FoundationDegrees, to Masters Level. Courses are delivered from various GEN II trainingcentres throughout Cumbria, depending on the programme; they may be attended ona full-time, part-time, day or block-release basis.
