The U.S. Hydro 2011 Conference, sponsored by The Hydrographic Society of America, will be held at the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Tampa, Florida on 25th to 28th April , 2011. U.S. Hydro 2011 is a continuation of the series of hydrographic conferences that alternate between the United States and Canada. This is the thirteenth U.S. Hydrographic conference and follows on the very successful U.S. Hydro 2009, held in Norfolk, Virginia.In addition to the technical papers, the conference will feature an extensive series of Workshops, social program, exhibition hall, a student outreach programme and closed meetings.The conference will include technical sessions and a poster session on the latest developments and applications in hydrographic surveying, multibeam and side scan sonar, data management, electronic charting, marine archaeology, and related topics.US HYDRO 2009's Student Outreach Program hosted nineteen students from eleven universities. This purpose of this program, which began with three students at the 2003 conference, is to introduce the field of hydrography and associated education and employment opportunities to undergraduate students. Many of the 2009 students were majoring in GIS or civil engineering and had had very little exposure to the field of hydrography in their undergraduate studies. Their conference registration, transportation and lodging were supported by generous donations from numerous companies as well as The Hydrographic Society of America. On the Monday prior to the conference, the students attended a half-day workshop on an introduction to Hydrography the toured the Bay Hydro II and NOAA Atlantic Hydrographic Branch which provides QA/QC on NOAA’s east coast surveys.More information at http://www.hypack.com/ushydro/2011/outreach.aspx
